Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale is an international contemporary art and design event held every two years in the historic ironworks village of Fiskars, in Raasepori, Finland. The biennale brings together artists, designers and architects from Finland and abroad, presenting site-specific works, exhibitions and installations within the unique heritage setting of the village.
The theme of the fourth edition is water and the human relationship to it. The historic ironworks community and the River Fiskars, which runs through the village, provide a natural and compelling framework for the main exhibitions exploring the meanings of water from multiple perspectives. Produced by Luovi Productions, the central exhibition unfolds across three floors of the Granary building. On the entrance level, visitors encounter Sense of Water (Veden taju / Känsla för vatten), curated by artist-researcher Riikka Latva-Somppi, examining how knowledge, emotions and actions shape our understanding of water.
According to the biennale’s founder, Kari Korkman, the location itself underscores water’s historical and contemporary significance. The Fiskars ironworks was originally established by the river, which provided both hydropower and a route to the wider world. Today, he notes, water can no longer be taken for granted at a time when the sustainability of natural resources is under increasing pressure.
The biennale opens to the public on 7 June 2026 and runs until the end of August. In addition to the main exhibitions, the programme will be complemented by a parallel programme selected through an open call, which is currently underway. Proposals for the parallel programme can be submitted until 17 May 2026.
