The Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimäki

Markku Piri (b. 1955) is a versatile designer and artist renowned for his bold use of colour and elegant formal language. His wide-ranging body of work includes home textiles, fashion, glass art, paintings, ceramics, tiles, theatre costumes and stage design, as well as hotel interiors. Piri’s practice reflects a deep awareness of the Nordic design tradition alongside strong international influences.

At the Finnish Glass Museum, the exhibition highlights Markku Piri’s glass works and multi-material compositions. Piri began working with glass in the late 1990s, and colour, light, and the play of three-dimensionality are particularly prominent in his unique glass objects and sculptures. The exhibition also features glass paintings by this multidisciplinary artist.

Through a dialogue between iconic works and new creations, the exhibition reveals how art and design function as building blocks of both human and artistic identity.

The exhibition architecture has been designed by Markku Piri, with lighting design by Ilkka Volanen.
