Helsinki Biennial 2025

8.6.–21.9.

Helsinki

Helsinki Biennial 2025 brings together 37 artists and collectives on Vallisaari Island, in Esplanade Park, and at HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Organised for the third time, the theme of this year’s biennial is Shelter: Below and Beyond, Becoming and Belonging. Helsinki Biennial will be held from 8 June to 21 September 2025.

The curators of the Helsinki Biennale, Blanca de la Torre and Kati Kivinen, drew their inspiration from the protected Vallisaari, which has remained uninhabited for decades. The 2025 Helsinki Biennale explores the concept of shelter and shifts the focus from humans to the broader natural world. In the works on display, the human figure recedes, making way for animals, water, plants, insects, minerals, and other living agents, highlighting their essential roles in the well-being of our planet.
