Antti Laitinen: Chiming Forest

24.9.2025–23.8.2026

EMMA

Artist Antti Laitinen (b. 1975) works with materials sourced directly from his local environment. On view at EMMA, Chiming Forest is a kinetic installation in which wood collected from various locations in southern Finland — branches and roots from wind-felled trees—is reassembled into a new forest. Mechanical devices bring the work to life, producing movement and sound, and invite reflection on humanity’s impact on nature.

Laitinen’s practice emphasizes the process: his works often take the form of physical experiments, where the act of making is more significant than the final result. Chiming Forest is part of the EMMA and Saastamoinen Foundation InCollection exhibition series, with Laitinen being its eighth featured artist.
