Bouchon Carême has been selected among the 16 most beautiful restaurants in the world in the prestigious Prix Versailles 2025 listing. This international recognition highlights spaces that stand out for their unique architectural design, aesthetic appeal, and cultural significance.
The restaurant is located at Aleksanterinkatu 13, in a historic building designed by architect Selim A. Lindqvist in 1900 — Finland’s first purpose-built department store. Interior architecture firm Fyra had the honour of designing the restaurant’s interiors in close collaboration with Hans Välimäki, Maria von Graevenitz-Välimäki, and Arto Rastas.
The aim was to honour the building’s origins while introducing a contemporary warmth and inviting atmosphere inspired by traditional market halls. The design draws on the building’s striking original features — brick walls, cast-iron columns, and grand arched windows — blending them with modern spatial solutions that encourage social dining. The result is an interior that is both homely and distinctive, characterised by carefully curated lighting and bespoke furniture.
The winners from among the sixteen shortlisted restaurants will be announced in December 2025.
