Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale 2026

7.6.–31.8.

10470 Fiskars, Raasepori FINLAND

Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale opens to the public on 7 June 2026 and runs until the end of August. Now presented for the fourth time, the international contemporary art, design and architecture event brings a thought-provoking programme to the historic Fiskars village environment.

The main exhibition, produced by Luovi, spans three floors of the Granary building. On the entrance level, artist-researcher and curator Riikka Latva-Somppi presents Sense of Water (Veden taju / Känsla för vatten), an exhibition exploring the relationship between humans and water, and how knowledge, emotions and actions shape our understanding of it. Combining design, art, science and personal experience, the exhibition features interdisciplinary art and design projects as well as cross-disciplinary research initiatives. Themes include water care and the impact of plastics on aquatic environments, inviting visitors to reflect on their own relationship with water.

The ground floor hosts the Biennale Shop, featuring a carefully curated selection of contemporary Finnish design and craft.

The Biennale’s second main exhibition is DEW (KASTE / DAGG / DEW), the annual summer exhibition by Onoma, curated and exhibition-designed by architect Marco Casagrande. Now in its 32nd edition, the exhibition examines the water cycle and its role as the driving force of life, positioning humans as part of the dew itself.

Around 60 artists are participating, most selected through an open call among cooperative members, alongside invited Finnish and international practitioners. Casagrande’s curatorial approach draws on the village environment, the river flowing through Fiskars, and the architecture of its historic buildings, creating a dialogue between place, history and nature.

The exhibitions are accompanied by an extensive public programme including discussions, workshops and artist encounters.

Marco Casagrande is an award-winning Finnish architect, biourbanist and professor known for his work in ecologically and socially sustainable architecture and reconstruction, including projects in Ukraine. His motto is: “There is no other reality than nature.” His work has been presented several times at the Venice Architecture Biennale, and he has received the UNESCO Global Award for Sustainable Architecture.

Riikka Latva-Somppi is an artist-researcher and curator working at the intersection of visual art, design and craft. She is currently completing her doctoral research at Aalto University, examining the role of craft in environmental discourse and the relationship between humans and soil through artistic and scientific methods.

The Biennale’s Parallel Programme further expands the event’s communal and multidisciplinary nature by bringing together exhibitions, performances, studio visits, art walks, artist dinners and celebrations organised by local artists, designers, galleries and workshops.
