Impressions of Sensitivity
(Press release 25 February 2010)
The exhibition artists are Heli Kauhanen (Master of Arts) and Essi Sikanen (Master of Arts). Lighting designer Jyrki Sinisalo will design and implement the lighting for the exhibition.
The aim of the exhibition is to display jewellery strongly rooted in the artists' manner of selecting interesting elements from their surroundings and interpreting them in the context of jewellery. These interpretations flow between the goldsmith’s traditions and design and art.
Heli Kauhanen enjoys working with silver, titanium and transparent materials, such as rock crystal. Everyday life and our surroundings influence her design, but the jewellery only hints at its original source. On their journey to where they are now, the pieces of jewellery have stored feelings and thoughts and their form has evolved from the original inspiration.
The basis for Essi Sikanen's art is in the joy of finding and perceiving. The pieces of jewellery are studies and interpretations of the world of perception which capture details and toy with the scale. The jewellery arises from rendered observations, perceptions and the interest towards three dimensional structures and shapes.
Jyrki Sinisalo is an experienced lighting designer and an active influencer in his field. He is also the chair of the Finnish association of lighting and audio designers (SVÄL). He is interested in using lighting to emphasise and enhance the idea behind pieces of jewellery.
