Finns in Milan
Salone del Mobile, the big furniture fair and design event in Milan, shows again plenty of Finnish design.
Artek presents there four new products or product families: the relaunched Lukki furniture collection by Ilmari Tapiovaara, metal chairs by Alvar Aalto, a side table by his wife Aino Aalto and the TW003 lamp by Tapio Wirkkala. Exhibition design is again by Mike Meiré.
As the very first Finnish designer ever, Tapio Anttila has started collaboration with the Italian company Riva1920, specialised in using massive wood. Anttila designed for Riva the Flux stool, launched now in Milan. Tip lamps designed by Anttila and manufactured by Keraplast Interior are on show in the Meet My Project exhibition at Studio Next in downtown Milan. Esa Vesmanen made the Bureau working table and IO E TE nightstand for the Italian HORM. His Tube lamp is on show at Saas Instruments' stand at Euroluce.
The Visu lounge chair by Mika Tolvanen for Muuto will also be launched in Milan, as well as Inno Interior's novelties including the Aura lounge chair, the Propel coatrack and new products for the Kola and Bondo furniture collections, among other products. The School of Arts and Design of the Aalto University has brought to Ventura Lambrate the exhibition Norther, with works from the students of furniture design, ceramic and glass design, industrial design, textile art and fashion and clothing design. Kiela – Design from Lapland at Zona Tortona is a showing of arctic design and a part of the WDC2012 Helsinki – Rovaniemi project of Rovaniemen Kehitys Oy and the University of Lapland.
